Fabrick Housing Case Study

Middlesbrough based Fabrick Housing Group (formerly Erimus Housing) have been using Scancapture's services to design, print, process and analyse data on a daily basis from 9 different tenants questionnaires, to help them to offer first class affordable properties where people want to live. One of the ways they do this is by the use of Performance Indicators (PIs) which relate to key areas of the business, and allow the Group to measure and monitor how well they are doing by using the data compiled by the range of surveys, which identifies areas for improvement, and where they can learn from their successes.

Since this projects inception in March 2007, Scancapture have distributed over 20,000 questionnaires for completion by tenants in their homes, and Fabrick have delivered a further 60,000 questionnaires upon completion of repairs and modernization works.

As a result of the excellent service that Scancapture provide to the Housing Group, they were also selected to produce a 16 page Tenants' Survey, which was personalized and distributed to over 5,000 tenants. Around 30% of these were returned directly to Scancapture in pre-paid envelopes. These questionnaires were processed within 2 weeks and a 100 page printed report was produced. An interactive report, showing scores for all questions by Housing Estate was also uploaded to a secure area on the Scancapture website for the Groups Corporate Management Team to review.

Scancapture also design, print and manage the annual staff survey for the company, who employ 550 staff.

The Technology; Combining Accuracy and Speed
Scancapture use a combination of high speed document scanners with optical doubles detection to prevent any double feeds and sophisticated intelligent character recognition (ICR) software to automatically "read" the tick boxes, numbers, letters and open ended comments written on the questionnaire. Any questionnable or incorrectly completed papers are manually checked on screen by an operator. As a large part of this project is automated by using technology, the whole process takes around one tenth of the time it would take for a manual operator to key the data into a computer database.

Fabrick Housing Group - Erimus Housing Ltd was established in November 2004, as a result of the Large Scale Voluntary transfer of Middlesbrough Councils Housing stock. Erimus Housing then joined with Tees Valley Housing and formed Fabrick Housing Group, which will oversee the business of the Middlesbrough-based landlords.
