At the recent NWEEG event which was hosted by Warburtons at their head office in Bolton, we covered the topics of Internal Communication as well as how Reward and Recognition affects business.
We were delighted to welcome speakers from Warburtons, James Cropper plc and A&P.
To open the event we had Managing Director of Scancapture, Steve Smith speaking about the importance of engagement and also encouraging the NWEEG group to discuss engagement issues via the Linked-IN group.
Our first speakers were Tearmh Taylor and Helen Harvey from Warburtons who delivered a presentation regarding their employees and the strategy for the business. They featured videos that were highly inspirational and focused on employees’ views which showed the pride their people felt towards the company.
Tearmh spoke about how they got their people on board which was achieved by giving them a realistic target, which was to become “Britain’s Best Food Business”. Warburtons have also started using Yammer which is an enterprise based social networking service designed as an internal communications tool.
After Warburtons delivered their entertaining and informative presentation we welcomed David Nicholson and Christine Lister of James Cropper plc. They discussed their new employee engagement strategies which focused on using screensavers, James Cropper plc wanted their screensavers to inform, educate and entertain their people as well as giving them the opportunity to give input on what the slides would feature.
They managed to work through several hurdles which were negotiated through maintaining a balance of humour, drawing a set of guidelines and in time the screensavers becoming a ‘go to’ communication tool. Christine said: “This project was designed by the people, and for the people” which really appealed to the theme of employee engagement.
Finally we had Clare Briscall from A&P who spoke about internal communications and focused on what you need to know about your business as well as what you need to discover.
Clare spoke about issues such as whether your employees are speaking about your business in a positive/negative manner or worse still they don’t talk about the brand at all.
She was very passionate about evaluating the employee surveys conducted and then to design focused workshops that help shape the future of the business through developing people.
